Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need Building Consent for my renovation?

Not always. Many straightforward renovations can be completed without Building Consent. If structural work, sanitary plumbing changes or other consent-triggering work is involved, we can identify that during planning and help determine the appropriate next step.

It depends on the size and complexity of the project. Smaller alterations may take a few weeks, while larger renovations and extensions can take several months once planning, lead times and construction are considered.

How long does a typical renovation take?

Can we stay living in the house during the renovation?

Often, yes. It depends on the areas being worked on and how disruptive the project will be. We can discuss this during the scope visit so you know what to expect before work begins.

Yes. Where required, we can coordinate plumbers, electricians, tilers, painters and other specialist trades as part of the overall project.

Can Taylor’D coordinate the other trades?

What happens if something unexpected is found once work starts?

Renovations can reveal conditions that were not visible beforehand. If that happens, we explain what has been found, what needs to change and any effect on cost or timing before additional work proceeds wherever practical.

When should I involve a builder in the planning stage?

Earlier is usually better. Involving a builder before plans and selections are finialised can help identify practical construction issues and avoid unnecessary changes later.
